  Taksim is the real center of Istanbul. This district extends to Pera and Tunel, where are found most of the embassies. As Sultanahmet was the muslim part of the Ottoman empire, Taksim was the christian area, and the architecture is here no different from the big european cities.

  A 1,5 km pedestrian street crossed by a nostalgic french tramway, the “Istiklal Caddesi”, where opens old markets with Greek or Armenians name, is the favorite walking place of Istanbulites .

  Combination of old and new, this area is also the center for night life and offers a wide range of restaurants. Traditional taverns invade the streets with their tables and you can taste the authentic appetizers, grilled fish, accompanied by gipsy musicians.

  This is the best location for the traveller in quest of Istanbulite authenticity, far from the too touristic beaten track.
