ITINERARY
|
Arrive
in Istanbul Atatürk airport where your guide will meet you and
assist you with your transfer to hotel. After checking in and
freshening up, we highly recommend that you take a good rest,
both because of the jet lag and also because you will be
starting on your wonderful trip of Turkey early the following
morning. In the evening, have dinner at a traditional restaurant
in the Kumkapi district, accompanied by gipsy music.Overnight

DAY 2. (Saturday) ISTANBUL
Have a relaxing day.
Enjoy a morning Bosphorus cruise, in a private local boat;
view the many palaces, castles and Ottoman mansions that line
the shores. After lunch we delve into the colorful sights of the
historical Grand Bazaar (Kapalicarsi), the world's oldest
"shopping mall", to look for treasures in its 4000 shops and
then dive into the colorful sights, vibrant sounds and
intriguing scents of the Egyptian Market (Spice Bazaar).
Rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY
3. (Sunday) ISTANBUL
Begin
your journey with a visit to the fascinating Turkish and
Islamic Arts Museum, with highlighted exhibits of
calligraphy, Turkish miniatures, manuscripts and ethnographic
displays. Continue to the impressive Blue Mosque (Sultan
Ahmet Camii), with its beautiful Iznik blue-tiles, unique
architecture and marble latticework and the Hippodrome,
the center of Byzantine life for 1000 years. Visit the
Topkapi Palace, the palace of the Ottoman Sultans between
16th and 19th centuries. which displays the arm of St.John the
baptist, priceless world-class collections of jewelry, porcelain
and costumes of the Sultans. A visit to the Harem quarters
is an absolute highlight. Afternoon visit to the magnificent
Haghia Sophia built by Constantine the Great and
reconstructed by Justinian in the 6th century. It is one of the
world’s greatest architectural marvels. Visit the underground
Basilica Cistern, Yerebatan Saray – the largest Byzantine
cistern in Istanbul. Evening, window-shopping in district of
Beyoglu and dinner. Both are highlights of a full and enjoyable

DAY
4. (Monday) ISTANBUL TO ADANA - ANTAKYA
Morning flight to Adana and
then continue to Antakya (Antioch on the Orontes) and
check-in to your hotel. This is where the followers of Jesus
were first called “Christians” (Acts 11:26). It was from
the Church in Antioch that Paul and Barnabas started their first
journey and to which Paul returned from both his first and
second journeys. Visit St. Peter’s church and the
fabulous Mosaic Museum, which clearly displays the
glamour of Antioch of St. Paul’s time.

DAY
5. (Tuesday) ANTAKYA TO CAPPADOCIA
In the morning, we
leave Antakya for Tarsus, where St. Paul was born, and
then we drive through the Cilician gates, just like Paul
and his disciples did, drive to Nigde to see the oldest
known Madonna and the Child scene on a wall of a 1,100
year old Monastery (Gümüsler monastery). Drive north to
Cappadocia where cliff dwellings and several hundred
churches are hollowed out of the cones, which are eroded
remnants of volcanic land. Frescoes depicting scenes from the
Bible or the Apocrypha are amazingly well preserved. En route
visit the underground city, one of many, where the
Christians found refuge during the persecution of the Romans of
nearby Caesarea (Kayseri) in the 2nd Century.

DAY
6. (Wednesday) CAPPADOCIA
A
magnificent day traveling through the Pancarlik Valley
and Churches to the Keslik Monastery complex and ancient
village of Mustafapasa “Sinasos”, renowned for its
excellent Ottoman and Greek architecture. Continue to
Taskinpasa Mosque, and Sahinefendi, the Armenian-style
Church and Monastery ruins. The Soganli Valley or “Valley of
Dolls” is the highlight with its fascinating rock formations,
decorated rock- hewn pigeon homes and unique frescoed churches.
After dinner, witness a highly professional “Whirling Dervish”
spectacle.

DAY
7. (Thursday) CAPPADOCIA TO KONYA
Immerse into the
depths to understand how the early Christians had lived and
worshiped in the land where the seeds of Christianity was
planted by St. Paul. Visiting the Göreme open-air museum,
later visit the locals in their houses. Witness the local craft
at potters wheel and at carpet makers looms. Continue to
Konya (Iconia) The Bible does not say much about what had
happened to Paul and Barnabas in Iconium except that their work
was sufficiently effective to antagonize the people there. They
had to flee. Though not much of the city from Paul’s time is
left, Konya is still spiritually important as the center of the
spiritual leader Mevlana, the Whirling Dervish who preach
friendship, tolerance, and divine love. En route visit
Sultanhani caravanserai, and the museum of Mevlana.

DAY
8. (Friday) KONYA TO ANTALYA
Early
morning we leave Konya for Antalya, via Yalvac
“Pisidia of Antiocheia” located on a hilltop controlling the
plain where the Roman military routes passed through. Occupied
by the Roman Garrison, Antioch was the most dangerous place for
Paul to be. However, devoted to fulfilling his mission St Paul
visited this town twice. We will walk on the marble roads of
Pisidia of Antiocheia being literally on the steps of St Paul.
We continue to Antalya, which has one of the most attractive
harbor settings of the Mediterranean. Overnight a restored
mansion in the old town district of Antalya. |
DAY 9. (Saturday) ANTALYA
A full day exploring
the fascinating archeological sites surrounding Antalya “Antalea”.
Paul visited this town in his first Journey. Visit the ancient
Roman city of Perge, where the substantial remains of a
great theatre, stadium, huge Hellenistic and Roman gates and a
colonnaded street are impressive. Visit Aspendos, the
best-preserved amphitheater in Turkey. What you see here remains
from Roman times, though the true history of the settlement goes
back to the Hittite Empire (800BC).

DAY
10. (Sunday) ANTALYA TO PAMUKKALE
A
scenic drive through the mountains of Taurus to the ancient city
of Termessos, which even Alexander the Great failed to
conquer. After a gentle walk, visit the sights. And continue
your Journey to Pamukkale or “Cotton Castle” where the
white limestone cliffs have attracted visitors since before the
time of Christ. Visit the Roman city of Laodicheia. As we
enter Laodicheia, we will have entered one of The Seven
Churches of Revelation. Transfer to your hotel and relax in
the warm spring waters of your hotel.

DAY
11. (Monday) PAMUKKALE TO SELCUK
We
visit the ancient city of Hierapolis scattered around the
natural beauty of Pamukkale, which was inhabited before and
during the early Christian era. St. Paul had played a distinct
role in the history of the city when he condemned the people who
go in for self-mortification and "angel worship". We continue
our journey via Alasehir known as "Philadelphia" and Sart
as "Sardes" our last stop for today will be Selcuk.

Morning excursion to
Efes "Ephesos" followed by The Virgin Mary's house
and The Basilica of St. John. Certainly the Highlight of
the day will be at the city of Ephesos. Sitting in the theater
visualizing 24,000 Ephesians, following the silversmith
Dimitrius shouting "Great is Artemis of Ephesians" in reaction
to St. Paul’s preaching.

DAY
13. (Wednesday) SELCUK TO AYVALIK
We
leave for Ayvalik, on our way we stop at Izmir
known as "Smyrna" our next stop is in Akhisar known as
“Thyatira" and visit Bergama known as "Pergamon".
Pergamon was the center of the Roman authority and therefore,
the place of persecution for those who denied imperial worship.
The Christians in Pergamon were promised by God to be honored
with a "white stone which will have a new name written on, known
to none but him that receives it". Visit the both sights as
Asclepion and the Theater.

DAY 14. (Thursday) AYVALIK TO ISTANBUL
Driving to Troy
you will get the feel for the distance Paul had to cover on foot
and appreciate his determination for accomplishing his mission.
We stop to visit “Troy” the city of the "Iliad and the Odyssey"
and eight other eras in History. Troy retains a mysterious power
and startles even the most unromantic traveler. Drive to
Canakkale and Leave Asia by a ferryboat for Europe "The
Gallipoli peninsula" which was the scene to a tragedy during
the First World War. Drive through the rolling hills to Istanbul.

DAY 15. (Friday) ISTANBUL
Free
morning for last minute shopping; time permitting, before
transfer to Istanbul airport for departure to ongoing
destinations. |
